To avoid burnouts with a Dodger Charger Hellcat is just about impossible. The 717 horsepower and rear-wheel-drive will constantly leave a cloud of dust behind this American muscle car.
The American way of thinking and constructing cars has always been different from what we are used to in Europe. The Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is very clear proof of this. European muscle cars, such as the BMW M5, the Mercedes E63 AMG and the Audi RS6 itself, is fading in comparison to the Hellcat’s power.
We are not talking about a few tens of horsepower here but over a hundred horses more than the Germans. Hellcat has as much as 717 horsepower or 707 depending on how you measure it. Regardless of how you measure it will blow your mind. To mash out this power a compressor had been added to the massive 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine, which gives the engine a torque of 881 Nm. This makes it the strongest and fastest sedan in the world.
“The name Dodge Charger has been an icon in the US ever since 1966”
Who doesn't remember the movies "Bullit" with Steve McQueen and “The Fast and the Furious” with Paul Walker. The model was discontinued in 1978 but returned in 2005, and in 2014 the special model Hellcat was presented. A Hellcat is the same things as a wild cat but the word has become a symbol of a person with violent and unpredictable temperament, especially a woman.
What is also significant for American cars is that they are beyond comfortable. The Hellcat adheres to this too. Alcantara-clad seats that feel more like comfortable armchairs than car seats. The chairs have really good support which may be needed when the car starts to move fast and the road turns. In addition, you will find all possible technology and a powerful sound system that makes the journey in a Hellcat very pleasant.
To start the engine, simply press a button. With a right proper roar, the engine starts and it is impossible to mistake this for a Toyota Prius or any other “greener” car. Despite the muscles, the Charger Hellcat has an Eco mode where the engine and gearbox are re-mapped for more efficient driving. However, that’s not something we intend to immerse ourselves in here and now.
The gearbox is an 8-speed Torqueflite automatic with traditional gear selector and paddles on the steering wheel. With the gear in Drive and you will barely have time to think of taking it easy on the gas until a plume of smoke is coming out of the rear tires. Even with stability control fully switched on, the car does not manage to hold the grip on the asphalt. And so it goes on, Hellcat has so much power that it gladly spins in almost all gears.
“It's not often I get scared behind the wheel of powerful cars”
Hellcat, on the other hand, is a little different, it is so fiercely powerful from the start and the back tires are too narrow, which means that the fight for the grip is always a losing match for the tires. Straight ahead, this is not just a fast car, this is rather like a missile and the howl from the compressor is a delight to the ear.
If one manages to transfer the grip, downwards it only takes 3.5 seconds to reach the 100-line mark on the meter. If you have a sufficiently long and straight road section, Hellcat can reach up to 328 kilometers per hour! To keep track of things, there are a number of menus to browse through them on the screen of the dashboard.
Here you can follow your rotational speed, G-force, and top speed and more. You can also change the settings of the car completely to your own wishes. You can choose between 500 horses or 700+, softer or harder suspension, faster gearbox and much more. Just to make the car behave as you like.
The German muscle cars are probably a wiser option than a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. But at the same time, they will never give you the delight mingled with terror produced by a Hellcat. Just as the name says, this is a wild cat from hell!
