Steamed red cabbage with Chinese 5 spice and plums  

A delicious recipe for wintery, cold days. The red cabbage is stewed with onions, apple cider and spices, very tasty!

Steamed red cabbage with Chinese 5 spice and plums


side dish for 4 persons
500 gr red cabbage (about one 1/2 cabbage)
1 onion
1 clove of garlic
2 tsp Chinese 5 spice powder
150 ml water
75 ml apple cider vinegar
2 bay leaves
50 gr raisins
100 gr dried plums
2 tbsp sugar
salt and pepper

Chop the onion and finely chop the garlic. Cut the red cabbage into thin strips and the plums into small pieces.
Heat some oil in a pan with a thick bottom and fry the onion in it.
When the onion is glassy, add the garlic and Chinese 5 spice powder. Fry with the onion.
Add the red cabbage and fry for about a minute.
Then add the water, apple cider vinegar, plums, raisins, bay leaves and some pepper and salt.
Put a lid on the pan and cook for about 45 minutes. If the liquid is still not enough
evaporate, let the red cabbage simmer for another 15 minutes without a lid.
