The privacy of those who visit our web site is of primary concern to Enliven, and the paragraphs below constitute Enliven’s Privacy and Security policy.

This policy explains what information we collect when you use Enliven’s sites, services, mobile applications, products, and content. It also contains information about how and when we store, use, transfer, and delete that information.

What information do we collect?

Enliven is a publishing platform (hereinafter called “Service”) that connects readers (“Users”) who seek to consume premium content supplied by our content creators (“Creatives”). In this process Enliven collects, stores and processes personal information about its Users in order to better customize their reading experience, but also enabling us to better serve our Creatives in their effort to distribute and monetize their content.

Like many other Internet companies, Enliven automatically tracks the usage of our web site. Through cookies (small pieces of information sent from a web server to your computer), Javascript (the programming language of the Web) and HTML5 local storage (local data stored in your web browser) we profile web site usage by tracking the pages viewed by you on Enliven, the browser used, and the computer’s address. This information is used to analyze trends, track usage, and optimize site administration and helps us in our pursuit of providing a better Service for you.

In order to take advantage of our personalized web and email Services, you as a User must first complete your profile registration. During registration, you will be asked to give your name, gender, age, postal code and email. This information is used in order to better provide you with a personalized experience by providing the articles most relevant to you. This information may also be used in how we provide ads and other sponsored messages to you as a User.

When you create your Enliven account, and authenticate via a third-party service (such as Twitter, Facebook or Google) we may collect, store, and periodically update information associated with that third-party account, such as your lists of friends or followers. We willnever publish content through your third-party account without your permission.

Enliven doesn’t track you across the Internet. We track only your interactions on the Enliven Service. Some third-party services that we use to provide the Enliven Service, such as Google Analytics, may place their own cookies in your browser. This Privacy Policy covers use of cookies solely by Enliven and not the use of cookies by third parties.

Some of the advertisements included in our Services are delivered or served by third-party service providers, which may collect information about your use of our Service. These companies place or recognize cookies, pixel tags, web beacons or other technology to track certain information about you when using our Service.

For example, in the course of serving certain advertisements, an advertiser may place or recognize a unique cookie on your browser in order to collect certain information about your use of our Service. As another example, an advertiser or ad server may also be able to collect your device’s unique identifier in the course of serving an ad. In many cases, this information could be used to show you ads on other websites based on your interests.

We do not have access to, nor control over, these third parties’ use of cookies or other tracking technologies or how they may be used.

Payment Processors

Enliven provides Services in cooperation with several payment processors, through which Users may pay for Enliven Premium Services or Enliven Creatives receive payment based on participation in our revenue share program. Those companies acting as payment processors may collect and store personal data related to your billing information and history in order to provide their services, and may collect and store personal data and business data to prevent fraud and other abuse.

When you delete your Enliven account, we delete your personal data as outlined in this document. However, to delete your payment or billing information, you will need to do so with your payment provider, as Enliven only has minimal secure access to those records as needed to provide the services.

How do we use this data and why?

We automatically combine this collected log-information with other information we collect about you. This information is collected and used for four main purposes:

  • To provide personalized services unique to you including customized recommendations of content and Creatives that we believe will be relevant to you.

  • So we can monitor and improve the services we offer to you.

  • To sell advertising space on our websites. This helps us to keep our websites free for those who don’t want to pay for our premium Services.

  • To market products and services that we think would be relevant to you.

Where do we store this data?

Enliven uses third-party vendors and hosting partners, such as Digital Ocean, Amazon, and others, for hardware, software, networking, storage, and related technology that we need to run Enliven. We maintain two types of logs: server logs and event logs. By using our Services, you authorize Enliven to transfer, store, and use your information in the EU and any other country where we operate. All User data for our European Users is stored in Europe.

Who will use this data?

All information is obtained at the discretion of you as an individual User. None of this data will be shared with any outside parties other than companies we directly employ to perform functions on our behalf.

Enliven strives to share minimal personal data with third-party processors in order to provide our Services. These processors offer at least the same level of data protection as that set out in this statement. This includes the following categories of recipients:

  • Hosting, Storage, and Other Infrastructure

  • Security

  • Analytics

  • Communication and Support

  • Advertisement Providers

  • Payment Processors

Search engines will index User content, profiles and public interactions. Users may also share links to content on social media.

We willnever sell or trade your personal data to other providers unless: (1) we have your consent; (2) to a service provider or partner who meets our data protection standards.

Are there any risks?

By creating an account on Enliven, Users may make certain personal data about themselves public and accessible to others on their profile and through network interactions. This may in some cases constitute special category protected data which is considered manifestly made public by the User.

Due to the public nature of information posted to Enliven, it may be possible for third parties to derive identifying personal data from posts, whether by reading, inference, supplemental research, or automated extraction and analysis.

Users are free to use their real name and information, or a pseudonym of their choosing, for their account. Users may also choose to use the Service without posting data or engaging in network interactions. However, if you do not agree with and accept the risks of such usage, you may not use the Services.

How long will you keep my personal data?

We will retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Services you are using, while taking into account any legal requirements and tax and accounting rules.

When you sign up to receive email marketing from us, if you then ‘opt-out’ from receiving emails, we will retain your e-mail address in order to ensure that we can continue to honor and respect that request.

To unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time, please click on the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any marketing email and update your account preferences.

How do I modify or delete my personal data?

If you have a Enliven account, you can access, modify or export your personal information, or delete your account by logging in and clicking the “edit account” link under your avatar in the top-right corner of the page.

To protect information from accidental or malicious destruction, we may maintain residual copies for a brief time period. However, if you delete your account, your information and content will be unrecoverable after that time. Enliven may preserve and maintain copies of your information when required to do so by law.

Enliven may periodically update this Policy. We will always notify you about significant changes to it. The most current version of the policy will always be found here.
